crow mother

I signed up for an Art Doll Swap on Art 42, and have been thinking about my design for a long time.  Had a lot of fun gathering materials, haunting the aisles of Tiede's second-hand store for possible doll makings.
I had the black bone crow head beads, and the white bone feather wings.  I found these great embroidered and beaded toes cut from a pair of black velvet slippers. Originally I thought these slipper toes would become pouches, but decided I liked the idea of an apron instead.  I found a scrap of dark brown velvet which I sewed for the body.
I used a large rusty metal washer sewn onto the bottom to help her stand up. She is stuffed with polyester fiberfill, with a cork and some wire to give a little bit of support.  The other beads came from my bead box.
This "Crow Mother" art doll is about 8" tall.
Since I have the other toe, and another head bead and two more wings, I intend to make a "twin" of this, so I can have one to keep, and one to swap.
I think she is quite lovely.
